A recent Observer letter writer was on track in pointing out the dangers associated with Jill Woolbright again gaining a School Board seat.
It reminded us of some, but not all, of Woolbright’s past outrageous contentions that the school district and the board had been infiltrated by Satanic influences, and her desire to load the board with only those that were like-minded God fearing people. Woolbright made those remarks in a church gathering in 2022 during her re-election campaign.
But what the writer didn’t mention, maybe for brevity’s sake, was what was also included in that religious assembly was her videoed participation in a prayer offering by the leader of the congregation who disturbingly called upon the Lord to silence every evil voice that would speak out against Woolbright and silence them by “cleaving (adhering) their tongues to the roof of their mouth.” That was clearly less of a prayer and more of a grotesque curse. In the video, Woolbright, head bowed, seemed all in and was very thankful.
Woolbright was asked by the Observer to respond to the letter, which she did. But curiously, instead of attempting to temper the radical extremist and divisive past, she instead ended up trying to defend her radical ideology by implying that the letter writer was just attempting to “mischaracterize” her faith. There was no mischaracterization. It was Woolbright’s own words quoted and captured on video.
She further actually acknowledged in her response that indeed they are her “sincerely held religious beliefs” and her “faith is an important part of who I am.” Those were present tense statements, suggesting it’s still who she was, and has unfortunately not changed or even moderated from her past, concerning ideology.
Woolbright is certainly entitled to hold extremist religious beliefs. But, likewise, voters are entitled to view that as an unacceptable, divisive presence on a School Board that is designed to be totally secular, inclusive and devoid of unwarranted controversy.
