The Florida Department of Education has released the 2025 spring assessments results, including Florida Assessment of Student Thinking reading and math scores, statewide science assessment scores and end-of-course exam scores in all other subjects. The 2024-25 school year was the third year that the FAST progress monitoring system has been implemented.
Volusia County Schools is pleased to share the following highlights across all subject areas:
- VCS increased the percentage of students meeting or exceeding proficiency in English Language Arts in every grade level (grades 3-10), including an increase from 54% to 57% for grade 3, which is in line with state average.
- Every VCS high school increased the percentage of students meeting or exceeding proficiency on the Geometry End-of-Course exam (EOC).
- All 10 traditional high schools increased the percentage of students meeting or exceeding proficiency on the Biology EOC.
- VCS increased the percentage of students meeting or exceeding proficiency in Math in five of six grade levels, with grade 8 seeing the largest increase in percentage of students scoring Level 3 or above, from 40% in 2024 to 56% in 2025 (+16 percentage points).
- VCS increased the percentage of students meeting or exceeding proficiency in Geometry by 15 percentage points, from 47% in 2024 to 62% in 2025 (+15 percentage points).
- VCS' Grade 5 and Grade 8 Science are both 7 percentage points above the state average in percentage of students meeting or exceeding proficiency.
- Twenty-one schools saw an increase in the percentage of students meeting or exceeding proficiency on the ELA FAST Progress Monitoring (PM) 3 Assessments for all grade levels.
- Nineteen schools saw an increase in the percentage of students meeting or exceeding proficiency on the Math FAST PM 3 Assessments at all grade levels.
Additionally, VCS is proud to share the following accomplishments in comparison to 10 other districts in the Central Florida Coalition of Schools (CFC) and state averages:
- VCS had the largest year-over-year increase (15 percentage points) in Geometry achievement of all CFC districts, which is also 7 percentage points above the state average, as well as the largest two-year Geometry increase (25 percentage points) among the CFC.
- VCS had the highest year-over-year increase in ELA achievement scores of all CFC districts in grade 5.
- VCS had the highest Biology 1 achievement of all CFC districts, which was also 4 percentage points above the state average.
- VCS elementary school students (grades 3 - 5) had the largest year-over-year increase in Math achievement scores of all CFC districts.
- VCS Algebra 1 scores have increased by 17 percentage points over the past two years, the largest growth among CFC districts.
- VCS Grade 8 Science scores have increased by 9 percentage points over the past two years, the largest growth among CFC districts.
- VCS had the largest two-year increase in 8th grade Math achievement scores among all CFC districts.

Official school and district grades from the Florida Department of Education are expected to be released later this summer.
