Two Matanzas High Schools students were arrested on Wednesday, April 9, for burglarizing vehicles on their school's campus, the Flagler County Sheriff's Office reported.

The students, a 15-year-old girl and a 14-year-old girl, skipped their first period class to break into cars parked behind the school, according to the FCSO. Deputies began investigating the incident after a witness reported the incident to school administrators.

“We have zero tolerance policy for crime in our schools,” Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly said in a press release. “I commend the witness for ‘seeing something, saying something’ about what they witnessed and the school resource deputies for taking swift action. Parents need to be the sheriff in their homes and teach their kids that skipping class to commit auto burglaries is illegal and is not what school is for. These students are now facing felonies. Parents, talk to your children about the consequences of their actions, or we will when we arrest them.”

Based on the girls' charges, among the stolen items were credit cards.
