Following military service he managed a 981-acre facility at Fort Gordon, Georgia, for the U.S. Army as a civilian federal employee. Just prior to becoming a pastor he worked for Cracker Barrel restaurants as a human resources director for 10 years. He then followed his long desire to enter the seminary and studied at the Institute of Lutheran Theology in Brookings South Dakota.

Pastor Johnson has pastored at the Christ Lutheran Church in Palm Coast since 2005. He is also the chaplain for American Legion Post 115 and will be conducting the invocation and benediction at the Flagler County Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday, May 27, at 10 a.m.
