Ormond-by-the-Sea Lions hosted holiday activities, volunteered and presented donations in December

December marked a busy month for the Ormond-by-the-Sea Lions.

The Lions held their annual Breakfast with Santa at Alfies Restaurant on Dec. 2, where Santa and Mrs. Claus welcomed families and seniors for photos. Children received gifts from Santa. Jim the Balloon Man and an appearance by a Volusia County fire truck added to the fun.

On Dec. 4, the Community Holiday Party took place at Alfies Restaurant. A prime rib dinner was served to over 100 attendees and Santa brought homemade seashell ornaments. The Lions enjoyed entertainment by Sandy and Jack

Cook, from the Halifax Repertory Theatre, who sang holiday favorites. Donations were presented to the Florida Lions Foundation for the Blind, Florida Lions Diabetes Awareness Foundation, Multiple District 35 Retina Foundation and the Volusia County Volunteer Firefighters. Past International Director Neil Spencer presented the Model Club Plaque to President Lion Kathleen Trutschel and the club surprised Lion Bobbie Cheh with a lifetime membership. 

On Dec. 9, five members of the club assisted volunteers at Christine’s Blankets to help giftwrap 720 blankets to be given out to homeless individuals in four counties for Christmas. 

On Dec. 10, Cheh delivered the District 35-0 pediatric cancer check for $115 from the Lions' pumpkin fundraiser and a check for $100 from the Lions to Bill Fletcher’s fundraiser for pediatric cancer. 

On Dec. 14, Lions Mary Yochum and Maureen Hamilton played Santa, along with Ormond-by-the-Sea Eagles, delivering over 150 toys collected from the Community to Beachside Elementary School.

Numerous Lions rang the bell for the Salvation Army in front of Publix in the Ormond Mall on four different days, each member taking a two-hour shift. 

Finally for the first service activity for 2024, on New Year’s Day, five members of the Lions Club helped prepare and wrap 200 dinners at Hope Place, a local homeless shelters for families.
