The Ormond Beach Lei-dees' Group for 50+ recently donated 55 blankets and $68 to Christine Blankets.

Held during their monthly Bunco game night, the group hosted Mary Yochum, from Christine’s Blankets, for a talk about the services the organization offers to homeless individuals and shelters in the  community.

Christine’s Blankets was founded with the purpose of providing a sense of comfort to homeless individuals along with "a reminder they are loved, even if from a distance," according to a press release. More than 2,000 blankets are collected and distributed annually.

Throughout the year, the organization also distributes "care bags," which include various essentials, all packaged in drawstring backpacks. Donations are always needed: travel-size toiletries, knit hats, gloves, sweatshirts, caps, socks, flip flops, water, sunscreen and more.

Looking for some fun? Attend Christine’s Blankets Game Day on Saturday, Feb. 3, from 1-4 p.m. at Tomoka United Methodist Church. There will be gift baskets, door prizes and desserts. Tickets cost $10 in advance. Call or text Barb Durham at 941-232-3035.
