The Ormond Beach Firefighters Charities received a $5,000 donation from Homes for Heroes on Thursday, Feb. 1, to benefit the family of late firefighter Ethan Wilson.

Last February, Wilson was found unresponsive in the surf at New Smyrna Beach and later died in the hospital. As a final act of service, the firefighter and paramedic donated his organs. Wilson is survived by his wife and son.

"The Ormond Beach Fire Department is beyond grateful to Homes for Heroes, Homes For Volusia Heroes with Karisa Newman, and Legacy Team of Volusia for generously gifting the Ormond Beach Firefighter Charities with this check," the city stated on its Facebook page.

According to the Homes for Heroes website, a portion of earnings collected every time a first responder, military service member or health care professional buys a or sells a home using the organization's program is donated to its foundation. To learn more, visit homesforheroes.com.
