Last month, the 3-year-old class at Temple Beth Ell in Ormond Beach honored veterans by making them some care packages.

daughter of a late naval officer, she said in a statement to the Observer that she understands the importance of always caring for veterans. When a friend from her son's Cub Scouts Pack 327 told her of the needs of veterans in Daytona Beach and Ormond Beach, she thought the best way to teach her students about honoring veterans was to help with those needs: particularly, foods they can make while staying in temporary housing or while living in hotels.

"Every day, we take for granted the sacrifices that are made, in order for Americans to live free," Thomas said. "This is the home of the brave, and our small gesture of care packages hopefully shows that we appreciate them while boosting their morale."

The students spent the day watching education videos on the history and significance of Veterans Day, did the pledge of allegiance, made some patriotic crafts, and then packed up the treats collected over the week for veterans in shoe boxes as a class.
