10:30 a.m. — 200 block of East Granada Boulevard, Ormond Beach
Criminal mischief. A retail pharmacy store manager called 911 after a 23-year-old Ormond Beach man walked into the store and knocked cosmetic items off the shelves, which fell and broke on the floor.
According to the manager, the man was in the store for about 30 seconds and only went inside to cause damage. A nearby retail pharmacy also reported a similar crime done by the man at their location minutes prior.
The man was located walking on the bridge by police. He was secured in handcuffs and transported to the retail pharmacy for identification. The manager positively identified the man, and said the company wanted to pursue criminal charges for the $750 worth of damaged goods.
The man told police that he had gone through "a lot of misery in the past months dealing with deaths of friends and family," according to his arrest report. The man said that he had tried to get a prescription filled from a retail pharmacy in another city, but was denied, and felt that this was what angered him towards the store. He admitted to walking inside the store to cause the damage "to get attention," the report states.
He was taken to jail.
8:58 a.m. — 500 block of North Nova Road, Ormond Beach
Possession of methamphetamines. Police responded to a call regarding a suspicious person after a resident reported an ex was on her doorstep and would not leave.
The reporting officer arrived to the neighborhood, but made a wrong turn, according to a police report. As he tried to turn back around, entering a parking lot in the subdivision, he saw a woman walking with a blue backpack towards the entrance. He believed it was the suspicious person that was called in, but was unsure.
The report states that the officer exited the subdivision and as he did so, saw the backpack she had been carrying sitting in the middle of the eastbound lanes. He spotted the woman, a 35-year-old resident of Daytona Beach, walking on a nearby sidewalk. The officer asked if the backpack was hers, and she said it wasn't.
While at first she kept walking away, the woman eventually turned around to speak with the office. She said that, while the backpack wasn't hers, there was "something bad" in it. The officer asked her what she meant, and the woman instructed him to be careful when looking inside it.
She later admitted to carrying the backpack, saying that she had found it the night before. During a search of the backpack, the officer found uncapped needles, methamphetamine and a Buprenorphine pill, which is a Schedule III controlled substance, the report states. Additionally, the reporting person arrived on the scene and confirmed that the woman was her ex.
The woman admitted to knowing the backpack's contents, but repeated that she had found the backpack and was worried a child would pick it up. She couldn't provide a reason for not contacting law enforcement when she found the backpack.
She was taken to jail.
