A few weeks after he was acquitted of kidnapping and sexual battery charges from the Ormond Beach Police Department for a rape that occurred in February 2020, a 46-year-old registered sex offender from Orange City was arrested on Thursday, Sept. 8 by Volusia Sheriff's Office detectives on three counts of failure to properly register as a sex offender.

According to VSO, Jason Minton used two email addresses and a phone number that he never reported as required by law due to his status as a registered sex offender.

Video surveillance footage showed Minton dragging an unconscious woman out of a bar and into his pickup, Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood wrote in a Facebook post a week after Minton had been acquitted of the Ormond Beach charges by a jury.

"The defense's successful argument was that the victim drank heavily and consented to everything, but she just doesn't remember," Chitwood said.

But while the Ormond Beach case ended in acquittal, Chitwood said his agency has pending charges against Minton, including a felony battery charge after he approached a victim at a business plaza in DeLand, gave her a business card and offered her an interview for a job. She later contacted him, and he picked her up in his company's truck, drove her to a bar in Orange City and ordered her multiple drinks. He then drove her to a wooded lot, and touched her without her consent, according to VSO. This court case is ongoing.

In February 2020, VSO reported that more than half a dozen women had contacted the agency to report similar incidents involving Minton.

Minton was transported to jail on Thursday and remains in custody with no bond, pending his first appearance in court.
