During the month of November, Ormond-by-the-Sea Lions Club members conducted free blood sugar screenings both locally and outside of Volusia County.

According to a press release, Lion President Greg Evans and Second Vice District Gov. Bobbie Cheh joined 25 district Lions and traveled to Immokalee to help the Naples Lion Club with a large screening event for adult vision and health. In partnership with the Florida Department of Health in Collier County and the Florida Lions Eye Clinic, Lions conducted over 131 diabetic retinopathy screenings along with more than 200 blood sugar tests.

Adults are screened for diabetes, hypertension, vision abnormalities, glaucoma, and more. Eye glasses are given to needy residents for free thanks to donated glasses given to Lions Clubs, with exams by two doctors on site.

Additionally, on Saturday, Nov. 19, seven OBTS Lions Club members assisted four other clubs with vision tests and blood sugar screenings at the American Diabetes Association's State of Diabetes conference held at the Ocean Center. Over 53 screenings were completed.
