Three girls ages 12 to 13 were charged with a burglary of a business and criminal mischief after they slashed bags of raw polystyrene material at an Ormond Beach business on Thursday, Nov. 10, causing at least $350,000 in damage.

Because Volusia County was under a state of emergency at the time, the girls' charges were enhanced to second degree felonies. They were also trespassed from the property.

According to an incident report from the Volusia Sheriff's Office, at around 2:27 p.m., an employee of Imperial Foam and Insulation at 2360 Old Tomoka Road entered the warehouse and noticed spray paint on a foam log inside the building. She heard noses coming from further inside and soon noticed the three girls leave the building. They were later caught down the road.

When the employee entered the warehouse after law enforcement arrived, she noticed multiple bags of raw polystyrene had been slashed and were spilling onto the floor. Fork lifts had also been moved and crashed into products.

Between 120 and 150 bags were slashed, and each bag cost between $2,000 and $2,500.

Additionally, a speaker was smashed, there was food thrown on the floor and multiple items in the warehouse were spray painted, the incident report states. Two of the girls spray-painted their names onto foam blocks, according to VSO.
