Man charged with aggravated battery after driving into construction flagman

An Ocala man was arrested for aggravated battery with a deadly weapon for hitting a construction worker in the legs with his car at 3 p.m. on Nov. 3 at Camino Del Mar Parkway and Grenada Drive.

The construction worker was working traffic control for when the incident happened, according to the charging affidavit. The construction company was repaving a section of Camino Del Mar Parkway, and only one lane was in use for traffic.

Northbound traffic was proceeding, the report said, when a black Porsche Cayenne became impatient and pulled into the lane. The worker told responding deputies that he flagged down the Porsche driver to prevent a head on collision. The man driving the Porsche shouted he needed to turn left, the report said.

The worker was, according to the report, standing in front of the Porsche when the driver and sole occupant revved his engine and lunged forward, striking the worker in his legs and pushing him back.

The worker told the driver he hit him; the driver, according to the report, said he did not mean to, and then drove off. Deputies spoke to two witnesses who confirmed what happened.

The man was found nearby on San Marco Court through an associate, and arrested for aggravated battery without intent to kill, the report said. The driver claimed he did not intentionally hit the man, and that the vehicle “lunged forward” during his conversation with the worker.

Man arrested for concealed carry had 33 round extended magazine

A man was arrested for concealed carrying a Glock with an extended 33 round magazine without a concealed weapons permit just after midnight on Oct. 31.

The incident occurred at the intersection of Belle Terre Parkway and Pine Lakes Parkway in Palm Coast. The man was driving on Belle Terre Parkway when a patrolling deputy noticed the vehicle failed to stop before the stop bar at the light, and had a partially obscured tag, according to the charging affidavit

The deputy initiated the stop as the vehicle turned on to Pine Lakes Parkway.

The driver was asked if there were any weapons in the vehicle, and he said no, according to the report. When talking to the driver, the deputy said in his report he noticed the smell of marijuana and saw a marijuana stem in the cup holder.

When asked, the driver said he did not have a medical marijuana card, so a probable cause search was conducted. The deputy noted in the report that he asked a second time if there were any weapons in the vehicle, and this time the driver did not respond, but began to reach into his pocket. He was immediately handcuffed and placed in the patrol car.

The report does not state if anything was in the driver’s pocket, but in the driver’s side door was a Glock 26, unloaded, and a 33 round extended magazine with 27, 9mm rounds, the report said.

The man paid his $2,500 bond and was released on Nov. 2.
