Explore Volusia: Halifax River paddle

When: 9-11 a.m.

Where: Sanchez Park, 329 Sanchez Ave., Ormond Beach

Details: View local wildlife and natural Florida during this free leisurely paddling trip, which is one of Volusia County's Explore Volusia programs. Paddlers may encounter marine mammals. Bring a canoe, kayak, or stand-up paddleboard, along with a life preserver and whistle. Registration required. Call 386-736-5927.

Heroes Honor Festival

When: 6-9 p.m. Friday, May 27; 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, May 28

Where:  Daytona International Speedway, 1801 W. International Speedway Blvd., Daytona Beach

Details: The Heroes Honor Festival is taking over the Daytona International Speedway to honor Vietnam veteran heroes. The two-day festival will be headlined by country music stars Toby Keith, Justine Moore, Craig Morgan and will feature guests of honor including Gov. Ron DeSantis, Vietnam war helicopter pilot Major Gen. Patrick Brady, and Chris Noel, retired American actress and entertainer. Florida Women Journalists and Politics

When: 9:30-11 a.m. 

Where: Anderson-Price Memorial Building, 42 N. Beach St., Ormond Beach

Details: Hear Kimberly Voss, UCF professor and author, share the stories of women's page journalists who contributed to their Florida communities. This is part of the Ormond Beach Historical Society's speaker series. Visit Ormondhistory.org

10th-annual Pool Safety Day 2022

When: 1-4 p.m.

Where: Central Park, 975 Central Ave., Palm Coast

Details: Teach your family how to be safe around the pool at this event presented by the city of Palm Coast, in partnership with AdventHealth. Lifeguards will lead fun activities such as pool games, mini swimming lessons, log rolling and more. There will also be a live safety demonstration with the Palm Coast Fire Department. Costs $2 for adults; $1 for children 17 and under and $1 for seniors 65 and older.

Patriotic Concert

When: 2 p.m.

Where: Ormond Beach Performing Arts Center, 399 N. U.S. 1, Ormond Beach

Details: See the Daytona Beach Concert Band perform a free patriotic concert. The band is composed of 30 members, including band directors, retired and practicing musicians, and young musicians who enjoy playing music.

Palm Coast's Memorial Day Ceremony

When: 8-9:30 a.m.

Where: Heroes Memorial Park, 2860 Palm Coast Parkway NW, Palm Coast

Details: Attend this ceremony to remember the men and women who gave their lives in service to the U.S. military. Free. Parking is available along Corporate Drive and at the Flagler County Library.

Ormond Beach's Memorial Day Remembrance Service

When: 9 a.m.

Where: Rockefeller Gardens, 26 Riverside Drive, Ormond Beach

Details: Presented by the city's Department of Leisure Services, American Legion Post 267 and American Legion Unit 267. CDC guidelines will be observed. Limited seating available. Call 676-3241 or visit ormondbeach.org

Flagler County's Memorial Day Ceremony

When: 10 a.m.

Where: Government Services Building, 1769 E. Moody Blvd., Bunnell

Details: Celebrate veterans during Flagler County's Memorial Day Ceremony, featuring special guest speaker retired U.S. Army Col. Cecil Hengeveld, a Vietnam War veteran. The event is sponsored by the Flagler County Commission and the Flagler County Veterans Advisory Council.

CFOB event with Lisa Lewis

When: 5:30-6:30 p.m.

Where: Ormond Beach Regional Library auditorium, 30 S. Beach St., Ormond Beach

Details: Citizens for Ormond Beach has invited Volusia County Supervisor of Elections Lisa Lewis to speak on the upcoming 2022 election process and procedures. Learn how to raise backyard chickens

When: 6 p.m.

Where: Virtual

Details: Learn how to keep chickens and start producing your own eggs during an online Backyard Urban Chicken Class. Kalan Taylor, director of the University fo Florida/Volusia County Extension, will discuss chicken breeds, proper housing, general health care, nutrition, manure management and food safety.
