Scholarships for summer camp

The Joyce Ebbets Scholarship Fund Essay Contest for the city's Enviro Camp 2022 is now accepting entries.

The scholarship fund will give two Ormond Beach children ages 7 to 10 a chance to attend one of the summer camp's four-week sessions at the Environmental Discovery Center. The first session is scheduled for June 6 to July 1, and the second will run from July 11 to Aug. 15, according to an announcement by the Department of Leisure Services. Each week will have a different environmental topic theme, and events range from nature walks, fishing, crafts and activities. The camp runs Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and space is limited to 16 campers per week.

To enter the contest, students must submit an essay on the topic: "Why protecting wildlife habitats is important." Essays must be at least 300 words, but no longer than 500 words. The deadline to submit is 11:59 p.m. on Monday, March 21. For instructions on how to submit, and to see the official rules of the contest, visit the EDC's Facebook page at www.facebook.com/EnvironmentalDiscoveryCenter

The scholarship fund is possible thanks to donations made in memory of former City Commissioner Joyce Ebbets.
