Halifax Genealogical Society monthly meeting and program

When: 1:30-3:30 p.m.

Where: Ormond Beach Public Library auditorium, 30 S. Beach St.

Details: Bill Meister will present, "Getting More of the Story." Learn how to enrich your stories by uncovering tips and techniques to help you add new pieces to existing ones. After the program, there will be a discussion of the recent release of the 1950 U.S. Federal Census. Guest registration is free. Contact [email protected]

Ormond Beach Democratic meeting

When: 6:30-8 p.m.

Where: Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Ormond Beach, 56 N. Halifax Drive

Details: The Ormond Beach Area Democratic Club will meet in-person and on Zoom. Social visiting is from 6:30-7 p.m. A Zoom link request and club information are on the club's website at ormondbeachdems.org. Like-minded and non-members are welcome to attend as guests. Club meetings take place the second Thursday of every month.

Holy Week Drama

When: 7 p.m.

Where: Tomoka United Methodist Church, 1000 Old Tomoka Road

Details: Tomoka United Methodist Church will present a live drama titled, "Have you seen my son?" by Jon McCauley Smith. The drama is about five mothers helpless to intercede for their sons as the greatest event in history unfolds. This produced by special arrangement with Christian Publishers. Free and open to the public.

NARFE luncheon

When: 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Where: Houligan's Destination Daytona, 1643 U.S. 1

Details: The Ormond Beach Chapter of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees will host this luncheon. In recognition of Earth Day, a representative of the Sierra Club will make a presentation on environmental issues in the local area. NARFE invites current or retired federal employees to join them. Sit 'n Sew

When: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Learn about plasma physics

When: 5:30 p.m.

Where: Ormond Beach Regional Library, 30 S. Beach St.

Details: Learn more about plasma during a free program. Dr. Byonghoon Seo, an assistant professor of physics at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University will discuss laboratory experiments for studying the sun. Reservations are not required. Call 386-676-4191.

Spring Bird Walks in Central Park

When: 8-10 a.m.

Where: Environmental Discovery Center, 601 Division Ave.

Details: Enjoy a leisurely-guided bird walk through Central Park with Halifax River Audubon and Master Naturalist Joan Tague. Begins and ends in the EDC parking lot. All ages and skill levels invited. Participants are encouraged to bring binoculars and water. Dress for the weather. All trails are paved and ADA accessible. No reservations required. African-American Trailblazers, then and now... A bright future

When: 6 p.m.

Where: Anderson-Price Memorial Building, 42 N. Beach St

Details: The Ormond Beach Historical Society's programs on Black History will continue through June. This series of programs focuses on the achievements of area residents in a variety of fields. This month's program will highlight the achievements of two local pastors: Charlie Freeman and Gary Pelhalm, who will tell the story of their education and careers in the local community. The Historical Society's current exhibit, "Jim Crow Era Propaganda and Artifacts in Florida" is also available to view. Program is free and open to the public. Visit ormondhistory.org.

Ormond Beach Police Athletic League Donut Dash 5K

When: 8 a.m.

Where: North end of the Trails Shopping Center,  254 N. Nova Road

Details: This year's Donut Dash 5K will run through The Trails and Tomoka Oaks subdivisions. The roads will not be closed to vehicular traffic. Check-in begins at 7 a.m. near La Fiesta. Registration costs $25 for adults, $20 for children and $20 for first responders through April 21; Race day registration costs $30. 12th-annual Mutt Strutt 5K

When: 9 a.m.

Where: Daytona Beach Bandshell, 70 Boardwalk

Details: Join the Halifax Humane Society for its annual 5K Fun Run/Walk, open to walkers, joggers and runners of all ages and skill levels. Leashed and well-behaved pets are welcoming to join in the fun. Pre-registered general admission costs $5, and all-access admission — which includes a T-shirt, one drink ticket and one raffle ticket — costs $25. Registration on the day of costs $5 more. Seated fitness classes

When: 11 a.m. on select Mondays, starting April 4; 3:30 p.m. on select Tuesdays, beginning April 5

Where: Ormond Beach Regional Library, 30 S. Beach St. 

Details: The library is offering two programs for adults who would rather work out while seated. On select Mondays, staff will lead "Sit and Be Fit" classes, which focus on stretch and strengthening exercises. On select Tuesdays, certified yoga instructor Carol Jones will offer a gentle chair yoga practice. Seating is limited. All fitness levels are welcome.
