Whose jurisdiction?

Larceny. A newcomer to town called police after he noticed over $40,000 of his property had gone missing since the moving company collected it from his previous home city in Ohio. Among the missing items were $1,500 in golf clubs, $15,000 in jewelry, $20,000 in collectable baseball cards and $4,000 worth of rare coins. The resident also noticed most of his property had been repackaged.

Police advised him to contact the city's police department in Ohio to file a report, because that was the last time he saw his property. The man later called back and told local police that the Ohio agency refused to file a report. He then contacted a different police department — the one where the moving company is based out of — and said they told him the local police department had to file the report.

The officer said that this wasn't the correct process, but that he would file the report. The resident wished to pursue charges.

Loitering or prowling. Police arrested an 18-year-old man from Georgia in reference to several recent car burglaries.

According to his arrest report, police responded to the 200 block of Forest Hills Boulevard due to a car break that had just occurred and was captured on video. As police were searching the area, a second call came in about an attempted car burglary, also captured on video. This helped police identify the man as the suspect, and he was spotted later that morning after a witness flagged down police and informed them of the suspect's location.

The man initially denied committing burglaries in the area, claiming that he was on his way to a local donut chain location. Officers showed him one of the videos of the crimes committed, and the man remained silent "and appeared defeated," the report details.

He was taken to jail.
