The Ormond-by-the-Sea Lions Club conducted its first Guide Dog Walkathon last month at Bicentennial Park, raising over $500 to help Southeastern Guide Dogs raise and train their dogs for the visually-impaired.
The fundraiser was held in support of National Walkathon Day for the organization, which provides lifetime services at no cost to its guide dogs, according to a press release.
In addition, President Lion Mary Yochum and fellow club members recently presented its $1,000 Al Weeks, Sr. Memorial Scholarship to Tristan Brooks, of Ormond Beach. Brooks is graduating from Seabreeze High School and plans to attend Daytona State College to become an emergency medical technician and firefighter.
Lastly, Cabinet Secretary 35-0 and OBTS Lions Club Past-President Bobbie Cheh received her certificate of Achievement from Lions Clubs International after studying to become a Certified Guiding Lion at the Lions Club spring conference in Orlando. The program is designed to assist clubs that are newly-chartered, established or rebuilding. Guiding Lions are assigned for a two-year term by the district governor.
A total of 48 members of the LPGA Amateur Golf Association Daytona Beach chapter played in the chapter championship on May 16, at Prestwick Course at Plantation Bay Golf and Country Club. The winners, according to a press release were:

A local artist's painting has been selected by the Copley Society of Art for its national show, titled "Connected Land and Sea."
The work selected is "May Twilight," an egg tempera painting by Daniel Ambrose, of Ormond Beach. His art, often focused on coastal landscapes and birds unique to the Atlantic regions of North America, is represented in galleries across the east coast, according to a press release. He is also a founding member of the American Tonalist Society.
The Copley Society is one of the oldest nonprofit art associations in the U.S. They currently represent over 300 living artists. The Connected Land and Sea show will take place in the Upper Gallery at the Copley Society of Art in Boston from June 17 to July 18.

Lori McMullin, of Ormond Beach, has been selected as the new Marketing and Business Development Consultant for the Daytona Regional Chamber of Commerce, according to a press release.
McMullin is well-known in the chamber as both an active past member and through her previous service as chair of the Leadership Daytona Alumni Council.
"Accredited in public relations, Lori’s experience lends to the Daytona Regional Chamber’s forward momentum in redesigning key areas designed specifically to support the mission of the organization through new and successful membership offerings," the press release states.
She will begin her new position on June 9.
