Summer Fun Guide: Find a summer camp for 2021

From surfing camps, to vacation Bible schools, here are a few summer camps being offered in the area this summer.

General

Volusia County summer camps

When: June 14-July 30

Where: David C. Hinson Sr. Middle School, 1860 N. Clyde Morris Blvd., Daytona Beach; Turie T. Small Elementary School, 800 South St., Daytona Beach; RJ Longstreet Elementary School, 2745 S. Peninsula Drive, Daytona Beach; Holly Hill School, 1500 Center Ave., Holly Hill

Cost: $65/week

Age: 5-13

Details: Volusia County’s Parks, Recreation and Culture Division will coordinate summer day camps at 13 locations across the county. The camps will be offered from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Staff will lead supervised activities, indoor and outdoor games, field trips, and arts and crafts. Five-year-olds must have completed kindergarten. Registration will be held at 9 a.m. Monday, May 17, until camp reaches capacity. A virtual registration is also available. Parents must pay the registration and first-week fees when they register.

Odyssey Adventure Club

When: June 21-Aug. 6

Where: Meet at Fortunato Park, 2 John Anderson Drive, activity locations vary

Cost: $350 per camp

Age: 9-15

Details: Odyssey OAC Adventure Club will take your child on exciting activities such as rock climbing, stand up paddle boarding, ice skating, snorkeling and surfing. All equipment and transportation provided.

St. James vacation Bible school

When: June 21-25

Where: 44 S. Halifax Drive, Ormond Beach

Cost: Free

Age: 4-10

Details: Join us for a fun-filled week of Bible based crafts, games and fellowship.

Lake Aurora Christian Camp

When: July 18-22

Where: Tomoka Christian Church, 1450 Hand Ave., Ormond Beach

Cost: $221; $75 deposit

Age: Children entering fourth to sixth grade

Details: Camp offers an endless list of activities for children.

Sports

Surfari surf camp

When: May 3 - August 27

Where: 52 Bovard Ave., Ormond Beach

Cost: 5 days $269, 3 days $199

Age: 8 and up

Details: For the past 16 years Surfari Surf Shop has been offering summer surf camps next to the Granada beach approach. Surf camp includes use of a soft surfboard and a four to one student to instructor ratio.

Plantation Bay junior tennis camp

When: June 7-July 30

Where: Plantation Bay Tennis, 200 Plantation Bay Drive, Ormond Beach

Cost: $285/week

Age: 4-16

Details: Camp is open to members, residents and guests. Limited to 20 spots per week. All counselors are 18 or older. Junior counselors are all 14 or older and are supervised by adult counselors.

Stan Lee's United Martial Arts

Details: A weeklong all-day camp that features two martial arts classes per day.

Education

Modern Minds Learning STEM Camps

When: June 14-July 30

Where: Modern Minds Learning, 495 S. Nova Road, Suite 103, Ormond Beach

Cost: $225/week

Age: 8-12

Details: Join Modern Minds Learning at its Young Engineers Club, where they engage kids in building, tinkering and creating. During the "Disaster! Save Our City!" sessions (June 14 and July 12) kids will investigate the science behind earthquakes, volcanoes, tornadoes and more. The Maker Challenge sessions (June 21 and July 19) will task children with testing their inventor skills, and the "Move it, Move it, Move it!" sessions (June 28 and July 26) will explore the physics of movement and test modes of transportation.

Arts

Museum of Arts and Sciences summer learning institute

When: June 14-Aug. 6

Where: Museum of Arts and Sciences, 352 S. Nova Road, Daytona Beach

Cost: $95-105/week

Age: 4-13

Details: The annual summer learning institute focuses on art, science and history, with integrated learning experiences for students. All classes are taught by education professionals. Visit website for list of programs.
