Local businesses to support Christmas Come True

Several Flagler County businesses are coming together to create fundraising events to benefit Christmas Come True to help families in Flagler County.

Tracy Hennessey and Realty Exchange have sponsored a scavenger hunt in Flagler Beach. A Nightmare in Flagler Beach is 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31. Costumes are strongly suggested. Over 30 Flagler Beach businesses are offering a little something for each contestant, plus prizes for the winners. Tickets can be purchased by calling 386-302-1290, or stop in at Christmas Come True, 2729 E. Moody Blvd., Suite 103, Bunnell, or contact Hennessey at 386-233-4875.

“We have some amazing businesses in Flagler County that understand the crisis created by COVID-19 virus on an already fragile struggling group of our community,” said Nadine King, founder and executive director of Christmas Come True. “Since January, Christmas Come True has already helped families in crisis by distributing over $9,000 worth of food, furniture, car repairs, utilities, appliances, gasoline and housing expenses, and we are now interviewing parents for their needs at Christmas. Christmas Come True had to cancel several events due to COVID restrictions which have left the organization in extreme need of funding. “

Another way to help: Mezzaluna Pizzeria has sponsored and partnered with The Hammock Beach Resort, The Conservatory Golf Course, Sugar Mill Golf & Country Club, Plantation Golf Club, as well as the Hampton Golf Course Management Company, for a Super Golf Package Raffle. There are 100 tickets being sold for $100 each, and there are four chances to win. Each package is for a foursome and has a set of two beautiful golf courses.

And finally: Janice and Team at Crossroads Tavern in Bunnell have organized a Poker Run on Nov. 14 with registration at The Beaver Bar in Ormond at 9:30 a.m. Included in this action packed event are Franks Place, Finns Beachside, and The Tides Oyster Co. & Grill. Entry fee includes food at Crossroads at 4 p.m. Entry fee is $20 a bike, and passengers are $10 each. Call 386-313-1444.

The mission of Christmas Come True is to support underprivileged families here in Flagler County who are unable to give their children the things that they need and want at Christmas, including personalized dinner, clothing, shoes, books, art supplies, gifts, toys and bikes. Since 2009, Christmas Come True has served over 1,189 families with 3,390 children. Over the past nine years, Christmas Come True has expanded their assistance to helping these families throughout the year.

Under the Harvest Moon Gala to be hosted by Open Door

Flagler County’s Open Door Re-Entry and Recovery Ministry will host the fifth-annual Under the Harvest Moon Gala as a non-event through Dec. 25, 2020. This event will benefit the Christian-based nonprofit, with funds going toward the operation of residential recovery homes in Flagler County that aim to transform individuals with substance use disorders through a six- to nine-month program.

“Our entire community is touched by addiction in one way or another,” said Open Door founder Pastor Charles Silano. In a letter to the community Silano wrote, “2020 has been an eventful year. COVID-19 has had a significant impact on the recovery field. Overdoses are up significantly as are overdose deaths. The recovery meetings were cancelled and to those struggling with addiction, meetings are especially important to their recovery process. At Open Door Recovery, we remained open and served as we could.”  With four prior galas held at the Hammock Beach Resort, Pastor Silano addresses the need for community involvement. “The gala is a chance for everyone in the community to become part of the solution. When we heal the addict, we heal the family and in turn, we heal the community.”

With a $100 donation the donor is offered a $50 gift card to one of five area restaurants: Oceanside, Carrabas, Texas Road House, Romero’s Tuscany by the Sea and Terranova’s. Sponsorships are also available with opportunities ranging from $500 to $3,000.

For information on how to make a donation or to become a sponsor, please contact Pastor Charles Silano, at 386-931-4158, [email protected] or visit www.opendoorrecovery.org
