The Shepherd of the Coast Lutheran Church commissioned, on Sunday, June 28, its first class of Stephen Ministers — six members of the congregation who have undergone 50 hours of special training over the past six months, preparing them to "walk alongside" those who are dealing with various life crises.

Stephen Ministry is a confidential ministry; those receiving care can be sure that their identity and what goes on in their caring relationship remains private. These Christian lay caregivers will continue to receive twice-monthly continuing education and supervision support as they serve.

The six new Stephen Ministers commissioned are Marsha Asbury, Bertie Sargis, Kelly Cheatham, Michael Dahnert, Norma Unthank and Pamela Rumer.

Shepherd of the Coast Lutheran Church, at 101 Pine Lakes Parkway in Palm Coast, is led by Pastor William Douthwaite. Visit sotcpc.com.

Flagler County library continues book takeout service

The library is back open to the public, but, as cases of COVID-19 continue to rise in the state, library patrons can still order online or by phone and pick up a book at the curb of the Flagler County library.

Library Director Holly Albanese said many older patrons of the library are still not comfortable with being out in public and the curbside service is still in place.

Once the library reopened, The Friends Of The Library volunteers returned to their post to help the county library. Books that are returned from the takeout system are set aside for 24 hours before being placed back into circulation.

To request a book call 446-6763, and it will be delivered to you in your car at the curb.
