Friday, Feb. 28

Square Foot Gardening

When: 10-11 a.m.

Where: Environmental Discovery Center, 601 Division Ave.

Details: Join Vivian Bowden, a master gardener, to learn about spring square-foot gardening and how to make a raised bed. Discover the most common warm weather plants and which ones to grow. Call 615-7081. Space is limited. 

Russian National Ballet performs 'The Sleeping Beauty'

When: 7 p.m.

Where: Peabody Auditorium, 600 Auditorium Blvd.

Details: Presented by the Daytona Beach Symphony Society, this fairytale of a sleeping princess, a handsome prince and the triumph of good over evil will come to life on the stage to the music of Tchaikovsky. There will be a fundraising dinner at 5 p.m. in the Rose Room. Reservations required. Tickets start at $43 and may be purchased at the box office, or online at dbss.org

Saturday, Feb. 29

Mardi Gras Bash shrimp-eating contest

When: 4-5 p.m.

Where: RiverGrille on the Tomoka, 950 N. US 1

Details: The first-annual shrimp-eating contest will benefit the Ormond Beach Police explorers and fire cadets. Three times from the city, OBPD and the Ormond Beach Fire Department will have five minutes to peel and eat as many shrimp as possible. A total of $100 will be donated for each pound of shrimp consumed. 

Sunday, March 1

Taste of Ormond

When: 4-7 p.m.

Where: Rockefeller Gardens, 26 Riverside Drive

Details: Taste the foods from two dozen local restaurants in one afternoon, including Grind Gastropub, Sovereign 63 and La's Bistro. S.R. Perrott will offer a tasting area with wines and craft beers. Each table will also receive two bottles of wine to share. Tickets cost $70 per person, with VIP seating available for $80 per person. Coffee with Commissioner Kent

When: 5-6 p.m.

Where: 130 Magnolia Drive

Details: Have coffee with City Commissioner Troy Kent at his home and get a chance to discuss local issues. 

Mondays with the Mayor

When: 5-6:30 p.m.

Where: Ormond Garage, 48 WW. Granada Blvd. 

Details: Share thoughts and ideas with Ormond Beach Mayor Bill Partington.

Peach Valley with Commissioner Persis

When: 9-10 a.m.
