Trunk or Treat

When: 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Where: Tomoka United Methodist Church, 1000 Old Tomoka Road

Details: Halloween fun for children with candy, games, cookies and cotton candy.

Friday, Nov. 1

Avoid scam artists

When: 10:30-11:30 a.m.

Where: Ormond Beach Senior Center, 351 Andrews St.

Details: Learn how to protect your hard-earned money and avoid being a victim of investment fraud. Know the red flags regarding these scams. This free educational presentation by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission is hosted by the Council on Aging of Volusia County. Call 672-4146.

Movies on the Halifax

When: 7 p.m.

Where: Rockefeller Gardens, 26 Riverside Drive

Details: Watch "Star Wars: The Last Jedi." Event is presented by the city's Department of Leisure Services and sponsored by Ryan Ochipa of State Farm. Free admission. Bring your own chair or blanket. Movie is rated PG-13. Call 676-3216.

Saturday, Nov. 2

Herb Society sponsors fall plant sale

When: 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Where: Bailey's Riverbridge Gardens, 1 N. Beach St.

Halifax Art Festival

When: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 2, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 3

Where: Historic Downtown Riverfront Park, 166 S. Beach St.

Details: Enjoy the 57th-anniversary of this festival, the second oldest continual art festival in the state. Over 252 spaces for fine artists and fine craft artisans from all over the country. There will be live entertainment, a student art competition, children's activities, as well as fine dining in local restaurants and cafes. The festival benefits the Museum of Arts and Sciences.

Safe boating class

When: 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Where: Halifax River Yacht Club activities building, 346 S. Beach St.

Details: America's Boating Club presents this two-day course over consecutive Saturdays. This is the course needed to obtain a state operator's ID and apply for a possible insurance discount. Course materials are $37 per student plus tax. Couples can share materials with a 50% discount for the second student. Call Don Roman at 453-6456 or email [email protected]

Coffee with Commissioner Kent

When: 5-6 p.m.

Wednesday, Nov. 6

Dance lessons

When: 12:30-1:30 p.m.

Where: Ormond Senior Center, 351 Andrews St.

Details: On Wednesdays, the Council on Aging offers dance lessons provided by "Dance With Me" instructors Tom and Jo Sanders. Costs $2. Participants are welcome to stay afterward for a dance gala and social, from 2 to 4 p.m. featuring live big band music by The Blue Notes. Call 672-4159.

Thursday, Nov. 7

Fall prevention class

When: 8-9 a.m.

Where: Meeting Room F at France Tower in Halifax Health, 303 N. Clyde Morris Blvd.

Details: Presented by Halifax Health – Trauma services, these free, 1-hour classes provide attendees with tools for living safely and independently. Fall prevention assessments are available. Call 425-4201 to RSVP or visit halifaxhealth.org/fallprevention

Veterans Day Celebration

When: Noon

Where: Ormond Beach Senior Center, 351 Andrews St.

Details: The city is presenting its annual celebration honoring veterans with lunch and entertainment. Reservations required. Tickets for veterans are free; $7 for others. Tickets will be on sale until Nov. 4 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Leisure Services Office, located at 399 N. US 1. Call 676-3250.
