The Ormond Beach Lions Club recently honored Seabreeze High School student Leigha Daniels as its student-athlete of the month for October.
Daniels is a three-year volleyball varsity player and serves as this year's team captain. Aside from sports, she plays the cello in the orchestra and represents the group as president. This year, she's played the national anthem at several volleyball games.
Daniels is also a member of the sign language club, four-year member of the Allied Health Academy and is a certified emergency medical responder. After graduating, she hopes to attend either Stetson University or the University of Central Florida.
The Rotary Club of Downtown Ormond Beach recently completed its quarterly cleanup of Granada Boulevard between U.S. 1 and Nova Road, as part of the Adopt-A-Highway program.

The AARP Foundation is looking to recruit people interested in becoming part of its Tax-Aide program volunteer team for tax season.
The program offers free tax filing help for those who need it most, especially those 50 and older. Volunteers receive training and continued support, and can perform a variety of roles at different levels of experience. Volunteer tax preparers complete tax preparation training and IRS certification prior to working with taxpayers. The foundation is also in need of grassroots leadership, on-site greeters, technical assistance and language interpreters.
The program now involves nearly 35,000 volunteers and serves 2.7 million taxpayers annually at more than 5,000 sites nationwide, according to a press release. The program is offered at about 300 sites in Florida, and the local Tax-Aide has six site locations in Ormond Beach, Daytona Beach, Holly Hill, South Daytona and Port Orange. Despite planning to be out of town, local Realty Pros Assured founders Bill Navarra and Buzzy Porter will not back out of their commitment to support the Halifax Health Hospice 5K Run and Walk on Nov. 9.
The race had to be rescheduled to Nov. 9 due to Hurricane Dorian, and both men will be attending the National Association of Realtors conference in San Francisco. However, Navarra and Porter have agreed to still donation an additional $1,000 to Halifax Health Hospice and run a private "race" in San Francisco, a press release states.

Five Ormond Beach Seabreeze High School students have been accepted into the Futures Foundation for Volusia County Schools Tomorrow's Leaders program.
Erynn Beebee, Pierce Casey, Joseph Cofer, Jake Feigenbaum and Leonard Marinaccio will get to meet and interact with community leaders who share their thoughts, concerns and hopes about current issues, community resources and various factors impacting the county. The program is a leadership training designed for high school juniors with a series of structured activities and events.
Up to five students from all 10 high schools are selected to participate.
The 2019 Brotherhood Ride, dedicated to 21 Florida fallen heroes in 2018, will take place starting Oct. 20 in Titusville. The team will cycle for seven days, covering over 600 miles and and an average of 80-100 miles a day before finishing in Fort Myers on Oc. 26.
The Brotherhood Ride is a non-profit organization of firefighters, law enforcement officers and EMS personnel who ride bicycles to honor first responders who died in the line of duty. Its mission is to provide emotional and financial support the families on, or near, the anniversary of the first responder's death.
Elk Lodges nationwide host the teams along the way, including the Ormond Beach Elks Lodge. The team is anticipated to arrive at around 4 p.m. on Oct. 20.
