5:09 p.m. — 200 block of South Center Street
Attempting to elude law enforcement. A 41-year-old Ormond Beach woman driving a convertible refused to stop for police, leading them on a 1.23 mile chase through town. Police had long activated emergency lights and verbally commanded her to pull over, but the woman yelled back that she was not stopping until she was in her driveway.
Police had initially attempted to pull the woman over after seeing her driving on the wrong side of the road at the intersection of West Granada Boulevard and South Yonge Street, according to the police report. Since the woman was driving at or below the speed limit the entire time, police pulled up alongside her convertible and asked her to pull over. Only when she arrived at her driveway, did she finally stop the car.
She told police she was getting her car to her driveway because she didn't have a driver's license and didn't want her convertible impounded. Despite her best effort, the convertible was still towed away, and she was taken to jail.
11:10 p.m. — First block of North Yonge Street
Information. An odd note, and its disappearance, left police unsure of whether to allow the towing of a truck at a local mobile home park.
Police received an anonymous call that night advising that a vehicle was being towed without permission, according to the incident report. When the reporting officer made contact with the man who was trying to tow the truck, the man said he had gotten permission from the property manager.
A second officer interviewed the property manager, who said that the woman at the residence wrote a note advising that she was leaving the state never to return. However, the truck was not registered under the woman's name, and the neighbor that allegedly had the note, threw it away.
The truck was left at the residence, and the neighbor told police he would look through his dumpster for the missing note.
2:13 p.m. — 1500 block of West Granada Boulevard
Grand theft. Police arrested a 49-year-old Ormond Beach woman who stole $600 from a local supermarket over a nine-day period while employed as a cashier.
The store's asset protection employee began investigating the woman after he saw her put money in her vest pocket via security footage. He then discovered the woman would routinely ring up customers for their purchases, and pocket part of the payment, according to the police report. The woman told police that she had an opioid addiction and that she used the money for drugs, hotel, food and clothes.
She said she had been taking money from the supermarket since beginning of April, and when asked how much she thinks she had taken, the woman said, "I couldn't even give you a ballpark number."
She was taken to jail.
