11:45 a.m. — 1500 block of West Granada Boulevard
Petit theft. When a 32-year-old Silver Springs man saw a tent for sale at a local supermarket, he thought: "It would be a good idea to get a tent to stay in." At least that's what he told police shortly after being arrested for stealing the tent.
Police report the man didn't deny stealing the $191.98 tent, and was also found to have another man's ID card and three credit cards belonging to a woman. The man said he found the ID card in a hotel parking lot and that the woman asked him to hold on to her credit cards for her. "They were in her car about a month ago and she forgot them," he told officers.
The woman filed a police report against him after she was contacted. The man was taken to jail.
3:50 a.m. — 200 block of Williamson Boulevard
Cocaine. A 44-year-old Ormond Beach woman thought herself clever for hiding cocaine in a chapstick, and when police discovered her drug's hiding spot, she was caught by surprise. "Why I thought hiding it in the chapstick was a smart idea," she told police according to the report. "How did you figure that out?"
Police pulled the woman over after seeing her vehicle jerking all over the road due to its front right tire being off the rim. Before the officer exited his patrol car, he saw the woman flailing her arms and with her body hanging halfway out of the window, according to the report. After making contact with her, the officer suspected she was on drugs.
A search of her vehicle resulted in a crack pipe and the chapstick, which had cocaine residue inside. The woman told police that "if you guys had caught me earlier, you would have been even happier. That's when I had the stuff." She said she had smoked it all and that's why the chapstick didn't have much inside.
She was taken to jail.
9:19 p.m. — 500 block of South Atlantic Avenue
Driving with permanently revoked license. A 57-year-old Ocala man didn't wait until he was in handcuffs to call someone and ask them to get him out of jail, as a police officer overheard his phone conversation while approaching his car. "I am going to jail," the man said to someone on the phone, according to the report. "I got caught again and call the bondsman and get me out."
The police officer then asked him if he knew he shouldn't be driving, seeing as his record showed he had a revoked license and numerous DUIs. The man said he did. He was taken to jail.
