8:26 p.m. — Intersection of North Ridgewood Avenue and New Britain Avenue
DUI. An Ormond Beach man handed police his roommate's wallet and ID after he hit a mailbox with his car. Police report the man looked confused when the reporting officer pointed out that the ID didn't "even remotely resemble" him, according to the report. The man realized he had accidentally grabbed the wrong wallet before leaving the house.
Police report witnesses saw the man swerving while driving before his vehicle crashed into the mailbox. The report states that the man then went to the homeowner to tell them what had occurred. The man failed the subsequent field sobriety tests administered by police, and was taken to jail.
2:55 p.m. — 200 block of Williamson Boulevard
Grand theft. Police arrested a Palm Coast man who swindled a local tire shop out of approximately 20 tires and 10 oil changes. The man was employed by the business, according to a police report, and the store's general manager said the thefts had been occurring since May 2019.
The store's asset protection manager advised police that he was conducting an internal theft investigation for all the tires the man sold "on the side." The man is suspected of selling these tires on the street for cash. The 20 tires are worth over $1,300, and the oil changes just under $300.
He was taken to jail.
11:11 a.m. — 600 block of North Halifax Drive
Information. A 54-year-old Ormond Beach woman learned it's best not to offer room and board to a contractor after a temporary stay for her tile guy turned into a much bigger ordeal.
The woman came to the police station to make officers aware of the situation, which started when she allowed the tiler to "temporarily" live at her home while completing the job, according to a police report. The tiler has overstayed, and now has her address on his driver's license and receives mail at the house. She also claimed the tiler tricked her into ordering more tile than she needed so that he could use it for other jobs.
Police provided her with legal advise on how to evict him.
