A group of Lowe's Home Improvement employees decided to take action in helping Oakridge Cemetery after seeing the Ormond Beach Observer story on the recent vandalism.
The team organized itself to head over to the cemetery on Monday, Aug. 5, to replace or add new flags to the graves. In an email to the Observer, Kurt Heidorn
of Lowe's said they added around 40 flags, cleaned up the cemetery a bit, and picked up some of the fallen memorials.
"We have a lot of veterans that work for us and a lot of veterans that come in every day, and the team wanted to respond to the vandalism and pay respect to our fallen local heroes," Heidorn wrote.
Pastor Michael T. Moxley has been re-appointed to Riverview United Methodist Church, located at 2253 John Anderson Drive.
Moxley was originally appointed in July 2018, and has previously served Trinity United Methodist Church in Lakeland. Riverview is now a mission and outward focused church, according to a press release. Moxley and his wife Jenni, who have five children, are looking forward to growing the children's programs at the church as well as "looking for new ways of spreading the grace of God in this community."
Moxley invites the community to join him on Sunday, Aug. 11, for Back to School Sunday. There will be coffee, juice and donuts at 9:30 a.m., followed by worship at 10:30 a.m. Representatives from Ortona Elementary School, Ormond-by-the-Sea Eagles and the Ormond-by-the-Sea Lions will be attending. Ormond-by-the-Sea Lions charter member Greg Evans was inducted as District governor for District 35-0 during the recently held 102nd International Lions Club convention in Milan, Italy.
Evans was inducted by International President Dr. Jung-Yul Choi, from Busan, South Korea. A District governor is the chief administrative officer and serves as the District governor team leader, according to a press release. Evans will be in charge of overseeing over 55 Lions Clubs, as well as membership growth, new Club development, administering and promoting leadership development at Club and District levels, promoting impactful service projects, presiding over Cabinet, Convention and other District meetings, promoting harmony among the chartered Lions Clubs and performing such functions and acts as requested by the International Board of Directors.

The Daytona Beach Downtown Development Authority has once again approved the use of Beach Street for the annual Halifax Art Festival, to take place on Nov. 2-3.
The 57th-annual festival will host over 250 juried fine artists displaying works of arts on Beach Street, from Orange Avenue to Bay Street, according to a press release. The festival will present artwork including oil and acrylic paintings, jewelry, ceramics, glass work, photography, creative crafts, and more. It will also feature two stages of live music, a student art exhibit and competition, children's area and food trucks.
