Our Lady of Hope Knights of Columbus Star Council 8086 hosted its second annual Coastal Duck Derby with the “rescue” of the winning ducks during the Port Orange Family Days on Oct. 7. Numbered rubber ducks, which were purchased by hundreds of people around the nation, were dropped into City Center Lake, and four winning ducks were collected. Dottie Decker, of OLOH Church in Port Orange won $1,000 from the grand prize duck. All proceeds from the event supported Coats for Kids, Resources for Women and Ultrasound Imitative, school programs for children with disabilities and more.

Volusia County Schools hosting hurricane relief fundraiser

Volusia County Schools hopes to rally more than 63,0000  students, their parents and nearly 7,500 staff members to participate  to collect more than $70,000 for the Gadsden County school district, which was affected by Hurricane Michael. Donations are being accepted through Oct. 26. The fundraiser will help Gadsden County with costs that directly impact the classrooms and schools, such as school supplies and substitute teachers.

 On Oct. 16, 2018, Lodge Scholarship Chairman, Paul Leonard, and Lodge Scholarship Committee Member, Louise Lauthain, presented Student of the Month awards at Atlantic High School and Spruce Creek High School.
