Rotary Club of Downtown Ormond Beach helps children learn how to fish

Several members of the Rotary Club of Downtown Ormond Beach helped teach kids basic fishing skills, knot tying and casting at the Riverfest Seafood Festival's Kid Fish fishing clinic on Nov. 17 and 18.

Holly Vincent, Chris Conlon, Tom Mondloch, Steve Burns, Linda Bradley, Cathy Moutsopoulos and Donna Conlin also helped hand out 300 fishing poles for the participating children, who were between the ages of 4-12. The clinic and fishing pole giveaway was sponsored by Fish Florida, Hull's Seafood and Innovative Bookkeeping, according to a Rotary Club press release.

Sheriff talks safety at local museum

Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood recently held a talk at the Museum of Arts and Sciences, located at 352 S. Nova Road, about

how to safeguard one's home and valuables.

According to a museum press release, his presentation included illustrative examples of how public safety officials collaborate across agencies to catch criminals who steal from residences and cars. MOAS Guild President Beverly McMurtry Grissom thanks Chitwood for his informative presentation.

OBPD officers work through Thanksgiving

A group of 10 officers celebrated their Thanksgiving holiday by making sure Ormond Beach residents stayed safe on Thursday, Nov. 22.

"Thank you to this great group of officers who spent today with their brothers and sisters in blue, protecting the great citizens and visitors of Ormond Beach," read an OBPD Facebook post on the agency's page.
