The Ormond Beach Lions Club recently honored John "Luke" Korfant as its Seabreeze High School student-athlete of the month for November.
Korfant is a four-year member of the SHS swimming team, and has served as team captain for the last two years. He has earned "Most Valuable Player" for the past two years as well, and qualified for the State Championship in his senior year.
Aside from sports, Korfant is a member of the National Honor Society and has earned a 3.9 GPA. He has logged 290 hours of community service working for the Seafood Festival and is almost finished with an associate degree from Daytona State College. He plans to finish his current degree and later attend Florida State University to earn a degree in Pathology.
The Casements is an official Toys for Tots drop-off location for the Volusia County Chapter. It is located at 25 Riverside Drive.
Unwrapped toys may be dropped off through December 14. The Casements is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday-Friday, and 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday. The Casements will be closed Nov. 26-30.
During the Movies on the Halifax event on Dec. 7, those who bring a toy will receive free popcorn. The movie scheduled is "It's a Wonderful Life," and will begin at 6:30 p.m.
Ormond Beach residents Rachel Thompson and Chester Perkowski were selected to exhibit pieces at the 2018 Spectrum Miami Art Show this December.
The exhibition consists of the Recovery Collection, made up of jewelry, sculptures and mosaics created with salvaged Styrofoam.
Currently, some pieces from this collection can be seen at the Riverside Art Gallery and Studio in Daytona Beach and at Arts on Granada.
The pieces will be on display at the World Wide Art-Artavita Gallery at Spectrum Red Dot Miami, located at 2717 NW 5th Avenue, from Dec. 5 to 9. Spectrum Miami is a juried show, and features the works of over 160 exhibiting artists and galleries worldwide.
The Environmental Discovery Center is searching for volunteers to help with daily operations and scheduled events.
According to a press release, the EDC provides environmental education to the public via program series, lectures, field trips, summer camps and special events. Volunteers help with daily exhibit tours, planning programs, assisting with community events, leading field trips and coordinating outreach efforts.

The Ormond Memorial Art Museum now has a new Veterans' Art Scholarship program, which will give selected veterans financial support for the museum's art education programs and classes, thanks to the Wells-Fargo Foundation and AdventHealth Hospice Care.
The scholarship is also a result of OMAM's eight-year partnership with the V.A. Wellness Center that also provides free monthly art outreach programs. For more information, call 676-3347 and ask for OMAM director Susan Richmond.
The Open Doors Counseling Networks announced the launch of its first Give Veterans Hope Fundraising Campaign on Wednesday, Nov. 14, with the hopes to help 60 military families in need by providing them and the veteran with 10 free counseling hours.
According to a press release, the network has provided support for military families at the Port Orange Counseling Center, the Ormond Beach Counseling Center and the Daytona Beach Counseling Center for almost 10 years. Visit giveveteranshope.com for more information.
