8 p.m. — 400 block of River Square Lane
Suspicious incident. An Ormond Beach woman found an envelope full of screws in her mailbox, along with a note reading "returning your screws." The woman advised police that she had an ongoing issue with her neighborhood's homeowner's association board members over having a playground in her property that was visible above her fence line.
The woman noticed that the envelope's return address was listed as the neighborhood's model home address and contained four non-U.S. Postal Service stamps. She told police she suspected the envelope was sent by the HOA president, due to the growing feud between them.
The HOA president recently found about four dozen screws behind the tires of his vehicle, and the woman told police she is under the impression that he believes she was the one to place them there, therefore triggering him to "return" them back to her.
The woman told police she didn't want officers to contact the HOA president, as she may want to file a civil suit soon.
9 p.m. — First block of River Bluff Court
Grand theft. An Ormond Beach grandmother pressed charges against her 15-year-old granddaughter after she took her SUV for a spin without permission. The 66-year-old woman told police her granddaughter asked her for the keys under the pretense of grabbing a pair of sandals she left behind and then consequently never came back inside.
The concerned grandmother texted her to ask about her whereabouts and received no response. She then called 911.
She would later tell police she wanted to press charges because her granddaughter had done this before and that she "did not learn her lesson."
8:30 p.m. — 1400 block of West Granada Boulevard
Petit theft. A 45-year-old Ormond Beach man was arrested for stealing a $60 pair of flip-flops from a retail store, telling police when caught that he did it because he was hungry. Video surveillance of the store showed the man stuffing the flip-flops down his pants and under his shirt.
The loss prevention officer confirmed the man as the subject who stole from the store. The flip-flops still had the plastic tie and advertising stickers, police noted.
