Whether it was conch, fried shrimp, crab cakes or even gator tail, the second-annual Crab and Seafood festival at the Port Orange City Center had something for everyone on Saturday.
“I have a huge following base on Facebook, so once I put it out there and last year it was a success, then it went viral,” said event organizer Brittany Presley.
Presley is the owner of Divine Designs Event Planning; she was one of 30 different vendors to partake in the festival.
One of the venders that attracted a crowd was Stoney Farms.
“We have crab, gator, scallops, oysters — you name it," said Evan Redstone, co-owner of Stoney Farms. "It’s a lot of fresh fish." Redstone's store is at 683 Mason Ave. in Holly Hill; he lives in Port Orange.
Ramon Personal Chef provided a healthy choice at the event. Ramon Vasquez grills all of his food and makes it fresh to order. On the menu were blackened salmon wraps, a roasted pork sandwich and much more.
Vasquez has been a chef for 27 years, and was a corporate trainer for Chili’s for 14 years. He now owns and operates his own restaurant in St. Augustine and will personally come to the houses of his clientele to cook.
“I make delicious and nutritious meals right in your house and I teach you how to do it,” Vasquez said. “This is my second time around here, and our first time at this festival. We’re hoping to see a lot of people here, enjoy the weather and have a good time. It’s a family-owned business with my wife, her friend and my two sons. We should be able to take care of business here and keep moving along.”
And if one wasn’t in the mood for seafood, there were several other local vendors who were at the festival to highlight their businesses. One such business was Fashion Passion, a family-owned jewelry store in the South Daytona area run by Whitney and Brittany Barhoo.
With the city center lined with trucks and tents, it was a nice Saturday for some seafood, and Presley looks forward to next year.
“The city was very cool about us coming here, so it’s been fortunate that’s it’s been so easy and the event has been fun for everyone,” Presley said.
