Free umpire clinic offered

The city of Ormond Beach Leisure Services Department has announced a free two-day Umpire Clinic which is being offered by the Harry Wendelstedt Umpire School for age 16 through adult.  The clinics, beginner and advanced, will be taught by major and minor league umpires on the Wendelstedt staff at the Harry Wendelstedt fields located in the Ormond Beach Sports Complex, 700 Hull Road.

The clinics will be held on two consecutive Saturday mornings, Jan. 23, and Jan. 30, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Participants are to attend both dates.  Clinics will cover basic fundamentals of a two-man system, plate work, the strike zone and other rules. Advanced umpire training will focus on the obstruction and interference rule.
