Liz Huber, owner of Cakery Creation, 11 W. Granada Blvd., is going appear on national television Jan. 25, competing on Cake Wars on the Food Network, which airs 9-10 p.m.

“I’m quite competitive and have always wanted to be on the show,” Huber said recently.  “I applied to be on the show on Aug. 18. They emailed me back and asked for pictures of my work and a headshot. About one hour later they emailed and asked for a video to see my personality.”

“I decided to combine my two passions and turn them into a cake business.”

She traveled to California in October and stayed for a week and worked with four pastry chef teams.
There will be a viewing party on Jan. 25 at Houligan’s, 1110 W. Granada Blvd., and Huber is inviting everyone to come and watch. She asks those interested in attending to call her at  931-4059 so the restaurant will know how many to expect.

Huber launched Cakery Creation in 2011, and her slogan is ‘Art you can eat’. She creates wedding, birthday and other specialty cakes, cake pops, cupcakes, candy bars, candy buffets and dessert bars. She makes 3-D cakes, which can be in the shape of any object.

Huber said she grew up learning how to bake in the kitchen with her mom. She is also an artist, painting with acrylic.

“I decided to combine my two passions and turn them into a cake business,” she said.

Originally from Ormond Beach, Huber graduated from Seabreeze High School in 1995 and now lives in Palm Coast.

The cake shop was closed to walk-ins for awhile, because Huber said she was so busy baking. But now has decided to open up to walk-ins starting Jan. 25, because people have heard about her appearing on the show and have been knocking on the door.

On Jan. 30, Huber will compete in the Taste of 24 at Daytona International Speedway which benefits the Nascar Foundation. She won the event last year.

Huber is the second Ormond Beach business person to appear on TV in the past few months, after Joseph Cofer, of Schmancy Popsicles, was on The Real in November.
