A golf club for women started 10 years ago by two Ormond Beach residents recently marked its anniversary with a golf game and party at Riverbend Gold Club.

“It’s been exciting watching it grow,” said Jane Eddy, who started the club along with Jan Tetrick.

The two said they had both moved to Halifax Plantation a decade ago and wanted to find a way to meet other women and have fun.

“We were both in the same boat,” Tetrick said.

The Executive Women’s Golf Association Daytona Beach Area, Florida Chapter has grown to 117 members, including two men, and covers the area from Palm Coast to Edgewater. Being a club with at least 50 members, they are able to get discount rates at courses. They are seeking new members at all levels of ability.

“It’s just great to get out on the golf course with the girls,” Eddy said. “It’s an amazing group of women.”

She said the club has helped many people find friends and start relationships.

Tetrick said it’s mostly social but there are competitive opportunities. They often have clinics from pros at the clubs where they play.

Getting down to business

Incoming club president Joyce Borda wants to focus on the business networking aspect of the club in the coming year.

She points out that the name starts with “executive women” and most clubs around the country have more business women in the membership.

“It’s a tool for business,” she said. “We might do a nine-hole networking event on Sunday morning. Network and have fun and if you want to get involved in competitive golf we’ve got that too.”

Several women currently take advantage of the get-togethers for business. Joann Brown, of Lifeadvanage health care, had a table at the party.

“It’s another venue to present my product,” she said.

Connie Karby had a table for her business, sendoutcards.com, where cards for every occasion can be found. Wanda Hinson had two product displays, Bemer chairs, which soothe sore and tired bodies, and Tupperwear.
