The Portuguese American Cultural Club of Palm Coast celebrated the 4th Annual Scholarship Dinner on Saturday, Oct. 17. The P.A.C.C. awarded 13 students of Portuguese ancestry the merit and cultural scholarships.

The scholarship money is the result of a special collaboration of golfers who participated in the annual North vs. South Golf tournament at three Palm Coast golf courses. The tournament was sponsored by Fred Hackney, of Hackney & Associates.

The scholarship committee was: Jack Ataide, Lauro Cabral, Ivone Carneiro, Manuel and Catherine Carneiro, Rosa Costa, Rosemarie Hiers, and Samuel and Paula Prata. Master of Ceremonies, Rosa Costa introduced Manuel Grova, Jr., councilman from Elizabeth, N.J. Grova spoke about the importance of ancestors who, through heavy labor work and many sacrifices succeeded in giving their children a better life.

“When you (students) wake up in the morning and don’t feel like going to your classes, please remember your parents, grandparents, and other ancestors, that for them there was no better days, only very labor intensive physical work, every day,” Grova said.

During dinner entertainment was provided by Kenny Real and Banda Unica.
