Halifax grabs top places in regattas

Over the last few weeks, Halifax Rowing Association has competed in a couple of significant regattas, including the third-annual Stetson Fall Rowing Rendezvous (Daytona), the Gator Head Regatta (Gainesville) and the prestigious Head of the Charles in Boston, Massachusetts. Here are the top placers, according to each regatta:

Stetson Fall Rowing Rendezvous

Men’s Masters 4+ first place: Sami Bay, Mike Makowski, David Kuehler, Perry Sperber and Amanda Ogden

Women’s Jr 2x (A) first place: Alexis Franklin and Ashley Dodd

Women’s Jr 2x (B) second place: Paige Jagger and Celeste Sebastien

Men’s Jr 2x second place: Bret Bay and Ben Herstein

Mixed Jr 8+ (B) second place: Julia Van Cleef, Collin West, Jackson Morfis, Emma Dominguez, Sam Bayer, Peter Springer, Ben Steel and Vincent Leffler

Gator Head

Women’s Masters 8+ first place: Amanda Ogden, Linda Smith, Jennifer Figueroa, Maureen Jones, Lois Butterfield, Lori Maxwell, Bethany Sennett, Kelly Bergdoll and Christine Power

Men’s Masters 4+ first place: Chris Conlon, Nick Greer, Michael Makowski, David Kuehler, Perry Sperber

Middle School Mixed 4x first place: Ian Wichlei, Anthony Leffler, Macy Shivalec, Emma Dominguez

(A) Mixed Masters 2x first place: Linda Smith, Perry Sperber

(B) Mixed Masters 2x second place: Christine Power and Ebel Silva

Men’s Youth 2- second place: Bret Bay and Alexander Grubel

Mixed Masters 4x second place: Christine Power, Linda Smith, Nick Greer and Michael Makowski

Head of the Charles

Sami Bay and Dimund Oppenheimer rowed as guest rowers with the Orlando Rowing club in the Women’s Masters 4+, and they placed 23rd out of 49 boats and third in their division.

Trails Racquet Club wins state

The Ormond Beach local tennis club recently won the USTA Florida Mixed 55-and-over 7.0 Division Tennis Championship at the Florida Tennis Center in Daytona Beach.

The club defeated Buttonwood Tennis Club 3-0 in the championship match. In the No. 1 doubles, Shirley Tyler and Blaine Roseberry won their match 6-2, 6-3; No. 2 doubles Margie Bailey and Patrick Tafoya 6-3, 7-5; No. 3 doubles Connie Fenchel and Gregory Bohrer 6-0, 6-4.

Those on the Trails Racquet Club’s season roster is Blaine Roseberry (captain), Darlene Gray, John Wilson, Connie Fenchel, Bob Gimbel, Shirley Tyler, Vincent Abbaleo, Patrick Tafoya, Rose Lucas, Margie Bailey, Dianne Krupski, Terri Bahr, Gregory Bohrer and Dan Hart.
