SERVPRO of Flagler County manager celebrates 14 years

SERVPRO of Flagler County manager Darren Wilson is celebrating his 14th anniversary as a SERVPRO employee.

Wilson, a Daytona Beach resident, said he enjoys helping people through emergencies.

SERVPRO opened in Flagler in 2005 and specializes in “the cleanup and restoration of residential and commercial property after a fire, smoke or water damage,” and also cleans carpet and upholstery and works on mitigating mold and mildew, according to the press release.

“It is an exciting accomplishment to retain such a skilled employee for such a long period of time,” said Michael Lilly, owner of the Flagler County location, in the press release. “As our restoration expert out in the field, we value Darren’s dedicated service and hope to have him on our team for many years to come.”

Florida Hospital Flagler partnership offers advanced ICU care

Florida Hospital Flagler has partnered with Advanced ICU Care, the nation’s largest provider of tele-ICU services, to deliver 24/7 monitoring by highly trained intensivist physicians and critical care nurses.

“By adding around-the-clock telemonitoring by intensivist physicians to the quality care already provided by our ICU team and physicians in the hospital, our ICU patients will receive the highest level of medical care available today,” Florida Hospital Flagler Chief Nursing Officer Robert Davis said in a Florida Hospital Flagler press release.

The new program begins June 18.

“Advanced ICU Care will monitor patients’ vital signs, medications, labs and clinical status and will use tools designed to identify trends or conditions that may require immediate intervention, without having to rely on a staff member to catch those potential threats,” according to the release.

Florida Hospital Flagler staff will be able to with Advanced ICU Care staff through two-way video.

A Journal of the American Medical Association study showed that tele-ICU programs are associated with reduced mortality, shorter hospital stays and lower rates of preventable complications, and a New England Healthcare Institute study recommends that community hospitals with 10 or more ICU beds adopt tele-ICU care, according to the release.

Austin Outdoor designs new Flagler County Veterans Memorial landscaping

Austin Outdoor’s Amanda Wilson designed new landscaping for the Veterans Memorial in front of the Government Services Building, and volunteers and private donors set the plants and placed a new black rail fence around the monument.

Louise Leister, with the Flagler County Extension Service, coordinated work crews that planted holly trees, rosemary and juniper, according to a county news release. The plants were symbolic, she said: holly trees to signify sacrifice, rosemary for remembrance and juniper for a great journey.

The Iron Warriors, a group of veterans who are also retired firefighters and law enforcement officers, provided the labor.

The granite monument — dedicated to all who have served, are serving and will serve in the future — was dedicated on Pearl Harbor Day Dec. 7 2006 and paid for with money from veterans organizations in Flagler County, according to the release.

It serves as a focal point for county Memorial Day and Veterans Day ceremonies.
