The Flagler County Chamber of Commerce formally installed its chairman and board of directors, as well as honored outstanding members, in a Friday evening ceremony at the Hammock Beach Resort, attended by about 250 people.

Alliance Financial Partners president David Fowler was installed as the chamber’s chairman, replacing 2013 chairman Scott Sowers.

Fowler said he expects the local economy to continue improving. For many local builders and realtors, he said, 2013 was a huge year. “This is a trend we think will continue in 2014,” he said.

Fowler said the chamber is also planning a more active role in local politics.

“With the promotion of Gretchen Smith to government affairs director, the committee advocates on behalf of all members and identifies ways to increase engagement,” he said.

Fowler said he expects the chamber to be involved in several candidate forums this year.

Fowler, a Palm Coast resident, joined the chamber’s board of directors in 2010 and is a member of the Flagler Homebuilders Association. He also serves on the board for Flagler Habitat for Humanity.

Chamber President Rebecca DeLorenzo told the audience the chamber has evolved this past year, and will continue evolving this year.

“We are in a continual process of reinventing ourselves,” she said. “We have to deliver a different kind of value then we have in the past.”

The chamber recently reorganized, creating area councils to replace its affiliate chambers in Bunnell, Palm Coast, Flagler Beach and The Hammock.

Chamber tourism chief Georgia Turner resigned in December and was replaced by Matthew Dunn.

The chamber also awarded outstanding members during Friday’s ceremony.

John Distler of Servpro of Flagler County was named 2013 member of the year, and Jimmy Millhollin, of ReMax Flagstaff, was named 2013 Henry Flagler leader of the year.

Other awardees included: Gaylee Tillotson of Top Shelf Storage, 2013 chamber cheerleader award; Avon Rose Chumaceiro, 2013 diplomat of the year; C.J. Betau of Evoscapes, 2013 chamber volunteer of the year; and Michelle Brown of the Flagler Beach Gift Shop, 2013 new chamber member of the year.
