Kick game: Palm Coast Soccer launches
The Palm Coast Soccer program launched its initial season Sept. 21, at the Indian Trails Sports Complex, with an opening ceremony where all players and family members met at the flagpole while the National Anthem was played. Then a fire truck sounded its horn, while helium balloons were released by the 3- and 4-year-olds from the junior recreational program. And with that, the season was underway.

“It was quite a successful launch for our programs,” said Ryan Maloney, director of coaching. Parents, players and coaches were fabulous in their positive attitudes and supported the structured and positive environment that we targeted. I really couldn’t have asked for more from everyone and am excited about the future of all of these programs and especially the young players that are excelling in the environment.”

Palm Coast Soccer consists of three programs:

1) The U6-U12 recreational program provides a fun learning environment for players. It provides a much higher level of structure for coaches and players than a typical recreational program, but it still maintains its primary focus on being fun.

2) The 3- and 4-year old junior recreational program is a ball familiarity program that is held one night per week for 30 minutes. It’s designed to be an introduction program for both potential players as well as parents of young ones.

3) The U8 and U10 academy program is geared toward players that are showing a potential to advance into higher levels of the game through skill, commitment and passion. This program is expected to grow significantly as players are identified within the recreational program.

“With 230 players in our first season for these young ages, we are excited for the future,” said Reg Monsanto, PDA Florida vice president of recreational/academy. This first year, we were forced to put a cap and have a considerable waiting list. However, we wanted to ensure a positive experience for each coach, family member and player and provide a support structure that is not typical of most recreational programs.”

Palm Coast Soccer is part of the Players Development Academy (PDA Florida). For more information on both Palm Coast Soccer and PDA Florida, go to www.pdaflorida.org.
