Maybe it’s something about running in South Florida, or maybe the team is just good.

The Matanzas boys cross-country team cruised to a first-place finish over the weekend at the Key West Conchs XCursion race.

Matanzas finished with an average team time of 18:09. In fact, Matanzas’ No. 5 runner crossed the finish line before any other team’s No. 2 runner finished.

Leading the way was Drake Goodman, who took first overall in 17:35. Anthony Colasanti (3rd, 18:05), Liam Conville (4th, 18:10) and David Perez (5th, 18:11) all finished in succession following the second-place runner. River Marti (8th, 18:47), Jeremy Tuggle (20th, 20:04) and Johnny Mora (27th, 20:24) rounded out the team.

The girls team took fifth, with an average time of 24:31. Payton Tucker led the way, finishing 14th overall in 22:52. The rest of the team finished as follows: Brianna Evans (16th, 23:30), Chase Kroul (17th, 24:02), Kristie Albano (29th, 25:57), Katie Winters (32nd, 26:18), Forgie Kenzie (36th, 27:27), Amanda Langhauser (39th, 28:03) and Morayna Thorpe (40th, 28:05).
