With a deadline of March 29, applications for the Ormond by the Sea Lions Club’s $500 Al Weeks Sr. Memorial Scholarship are now being accepted.

Open to local graduating seniors who will be attending a college, university, business or trade school in the upcoming fall semester, the scholarship is available to any student who has maintained a B average (3.0 GPA) or higher.

Applicants must submit their high school transcript, two nonfamily references, a narrative outlining their community involvement the past four years, their school involvement and why, financially, they need support — as well as a “Why I should be awarded ...” essay.

A list of other scholarships already awarded must also be included, in addition to college or scholarship acceptance letters.

Send applications, with cover page including name, address, phone number and school, to Mary Yochum, Ormond by the Sea Lions Club, P.O. Box 2884, Ormond Beach, FL 32174.

Frank White, president, and Bobbie Cheh, secretary, were also newly installed club officers last month. Lions Katie Hamlin and Peggy Bull attended a district Lions meeting in Deland. Members joined the Palm Coast Lions Club by performing diabetic screenings at the Flagler Home Show, where more than 400 people were screened in two days. And Andrea Stevens, the club’s newest member was installed.

Call Mary Yochum, at 441-4421.
