PAY IT FORWARD, the Christmas tree edition

I have two more pay-it-forward stories to share this week. The first is from an anonymous resident who went shopping for a Christmas tree.

“Another family of three was also there,” the resident wrote, “and my husband offered to hold a tree up for them so they could all take a look. Well, they must have overheard us moments later talking about the fact that the big trees were out of our price range, even though our kids were running around picking only the biggest trees. I even walked out of the tent and asked the employee if they had any ‘scratch and dent’ trees!

“A few minutes later, the woman walked up to us and said whatever tree we wanted was her treat. I was stunned. She said they would like to get it for us since my husband had been so kind to help them.

“We’ve been struggling lately, and buying a tree was not going to be easy. Then, the kindness of a total stranger stepped in, and I assured her we would pay it forward in some way. We are grateful to them, and so happy to be reminded of such goodness in people.”

The second story is about Kaitlin Murray, senior advertising account manager at the Palm Coast Observer. She told me today might as well have been Pay It Forward Day at Dunkin’ Donuts.

“I went through the drive-thru, and the guy said, ‘You don’t owe anything: The woman in front of you paid,'" Murray said. The cashier told her that was the second person who paid for someone else’s coffee that day.

“And I said, ‘Oh, that was nice. I guess I’ll pay for the person behind me, then.’”

So, she did! Send stories of goodwill to [email protected].
