The Flagler Palm Coast bowling teams strung together strikes and spares Thursday, Sept. 13, en route to a clean sweep of Atlantic High School.
On the boys side, the Bulldogs were led by D’John James and Max Stegemann. In the first game, the Bulldogs won, 648-469, with a high score of 188 by Daniel Parker. Stegemann’s 232 and James’ 227 powered the Bulldogs to a Game 2 win for the Bulldogs, 765-607. The Bulldogs won the final game, 614-541.
In total, the Bulldogs won the match in pins, 2,027-1,617.
The win was the first of the season for the Bulldogs (1-5).
Chelsea Blaha powered the Lady Bulldogs Thursday afternoon. In the first game, Blaha finished with a 214, and FPC won the game, 659-529.
The second game was more of the same. Kimberlie Howe bowled a 192 and Bianca Aviles bowled a 164 as FPC won, 659-529.
The third game also went to the Bulldogs. Blaha bowled a match-high 226 for the girls, and FPC won, 636-583. The Lady Bulldogs won the match in overall pins, 1,929-1,696.
The Lady Bulldogs are now 2-4 this season.
Fourth-year coach Steven Poppe said the team has faced five of the toughest schools in the area early on this season, but he hopes that will prepare the team for the district tournament come October.
“They come to practice every day, and they are good kids,” Poppe said. “And that’s all you can really ask for.”
Both the boys and the girls team feature young bowlers. The top four on the boys side include one junior, two sophomores and a senior. The top four girls includes one freshman and three juniors.
Next up, the FPC bowling team will square off against DeLand Tuesday, Sept. 18, at DeLand.
