Music blared from loud speakers placed high above the Flagler Beach boardwalk Saturday, Nov. 17.

The water, just south of the pier, was speckled with surfers, some carrying flowers in their teeth as they slid across the water in every direction. They were participating in a free-surf at the 13th-annual Tommy Tant Memorial Surf Classic, in memory of Tommy Tant and all others who have died in the surf community. As the final song faded out and the surfers made their way to the beach, the colors of a feint rainbow peaked through the overcast sky.

More than 200 surfers made their way to Flagler Beach for the annual contest, which also included a food festival, concert and the much-anticipated Red Bull Night Riders.

Brandon Hoffman made history Saturday night, becoming the first Flagler Beach native to participate in the night-time aerial contest. Jacksonville’s Evan Thompson won the the Night Riders event. His older brother, Cody, won the event last year.
