FPC boys finished third in region, advance to states
For the first time since 2009, the Flagler Palm Coast boys cross-country team will advance to the Class 4A state championships after placing third in Class 4A Region 1 meet last week.

Competiing in what has been dubbed the Region of Death, the Bulldogs finished with 145 team points at last week’s regional meet, 85 points back from regional champions Colonial High School (60 points). Mandarin took second place with 68 points.

The average time for the Bulldogs was 16 minutes, 47 seconds.

Thomas Carroll (seventh, 16:03) and Brad Walbert (14th, 16:22) qualified individually by placing in the Top 15.

The remainder of the team finished as follows:

Joseph Alter, 67th, 17:32
Tyler Dimiro, 69th, 17:34
Dean Rulapaugh, 81st, 17:49

The girls team placed 14th overall at the regional meet and did not advance to states.

The Class 4A state meet will take place 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, at Apalachee Regional Park, in Tallahassee.

Loder qualifies for states for third straight year
Hannah Loder has done it again.

Loder, a senior on the Matanzas cross-country team, finished in eighth place this weekend at the Class 3A Region 1 meet and qualified individually for the Class 3A state meet next weekend.

Loder finished in 19 minutes, 12 seconds, about 40 seconds behind the region champion. This is the third consecutive year that Loder has qualified for states.

Matanzas girls finished ninth overall, with a team average of 20:34. The boys team finished 11th overall, with a team average of 17:11.

The Class 3A state meet will take place 8:25 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, at Apalachee Regional Park, in Tallahassee.

Matanzas ends football season with loss to Atlantic
Matanzas didn’t end its season the way it wanted, losing to Atlantic, 30-20, on Friday night.

Matanzas finished its season 3-7 and 1-4 in District 4-5A play. After a two-game winning streak in October, the Pirates closed out the season with three straight losses.
