+ Matanzas softball beats Menendez, locks up 2 seed
Down four runs after two innings, the Matanzas softball team scored two runs in the third inning and another three runs in the fifth Thursday night for a come-from-behind 5-4 win over district foe Pedro Menendez.

Amber Johnson (5-8) powered the Lady Pirates with six strikeouts and one walk in the pitcher’s circle.
Johnson threw 70 strikes out of 105 pitches, a 67% strike rate.

Catcher Gabrielle Prickett threw out two would-be base stealers at second base.

“This was a huge district win for us,” Matanzas coach Sara Novak said.

Cheyenna Espinoza had two singles and two RBIs. In the fifth inning, Johnson hit a ball up the middle. Pedro Menendez’s shortstop committed an error, and the ball trickled all the way to the fence.
