SIDELINES: Stuart hurls one-hitter, Pirates snap skid

Tyler Stuart’s dominant pitching performance led the Matanzas Pirates to an 8-0 win over Seabreeze Friday night.

Stuart, a sophomore, struck out eight batters in seven innings of work. Stuart finished the night with a complete-game one-hitter.

Matanzas did most of its damage in the fifth inning, scoring four runs. The Pirates tacked on three more runs in the sixth. Kevin Moore went 3-for-4 at the plate.

Matanzas (2-3) hosts Calvary 7 p.m. Friday, March 2.

FPC lacrosse gets district win
Flagler Palm Coast defeated Pedro Menendez, 16-1, Tuesday night in a district matchup.

The Bulldogs led at halftime, 8-1.

Shane Noble scored eight goals and added two assists. Wes Adams and Cheyne Devens each scored three goals, while Andrew Kemper and Alec Noble scored one goal apiece.

Conor Bertha made eight saves in goal for FPC. Bertha also got involved offensively, making it into Menendez’s offensive third and tallying a shot on goal.

Ryan King won 16 faceoffs, allowing FPC to keep possession most of the game.

FPC (2-1) plays 6 p.m. Friday, March 2, at First Academy.

Matanzas softball tops Atlantic in five
Only five innings were needed Tuesday night, as the Matanzas Lady Pirates beat Atlantic, 13-3.

Gabrielle Prickett (1-1) lasted three innings, allowing three hits, two walks; she struck out two batters. Marisa Magnuson came on in relief of Prickett, allowing two hits, one walk and one strikeout.

From the plate, Prickett went 2-for-4 with a triple. Magnuson went 2-for-3 with a triple. Christina Reynolds and Amber Johnson each went 3-for-3. Reynolds had one RBI while Johnson had three RBIs.

Matanzas plays 7 p.m. today, at Ponte Vedra.
