+ Lady Bulldogs ousted in state playoffs
The Flagler Palm Coast Lady Bulldogs basketball team finished its season Thursday, Feb. 9, after losing to Lake Mary, 62-36, in the Class 8A regional quarterfinals.

FPC finished the season 16-10 and lost in the first round of the state playoffs for the third straight year.

+ FPC’s Smith qualifies for states in wrestling
Flagler Palm Coast 182-pounder Logan Smith qualified for the Class 3A state wrestling tournament after placing second in the Region 1-3A championships.

Smith, a sophomore, will wrestle against Carlos Martinez, a junior from North Port. Smith’s record heading into the state meet is 25-8; Martinez is 40-2.

The state meet will be Friday, Feb. 17, and Saturday, Feb. 18, at The Lakeland Center.

Zack Ford (132 pounds), Trey Owens (138 pounds) and Dillon Prince (170 pounds) all lost in the consolation quarterfinals — just one round away from qualifying for the state meet.

+ Matanzas sends three wrestlers to states
The Matanzas Pirates won the District 3-2A title, qualifying nine wrestlers for the Region 1-2A meet.

The Pirates will send three wrestlers to the Class 2A state meet Feb. 17 and Feb. 18, at The Lakeland Center.

Pedro Nieves, a sophomore, finished fourth at the region in the 132-pound class. Nieves is 23-13 this season and will face Jeff Letizia, an Olympic Heights junior, who is 35-9.

Jason Cowles, a senior, placed third at the region meet in the 182-pound class. Cowles is 38-10 this season and will face Travis Macon, a senior from Armwood, who is 39-9.

Tony Mendez, also a senior, won the 220-pound class at the region meet. Mendez is 38-7 this season and will face Del Baldwin, a sophomore from Kathleen (Lakeland), who is 28-10.

+ Palm Coast offers free football clinic
Palm Coast will offer football clinics 2 p.m. Saturdays, from March 3 until April 14, at Ralph Carter Park, 1385 Rymfire Drive. (No clinics April 7.)

Boys and girls, ages 13 to 18, are invited. There is no cost.
